Apple Grafting 101

Become An Apple Steward

125 US dollars
East Bunco Road

Service Description

Grafting is an art and skill that has existed since 2000 B.C. Thousands of years later, it has remained a vital skill-set to ensure the continuation of rare and highly desirable characteristics in fruit. In this case, the apple. During this workshop, we will briefly discuss the history and necessity of grafting, and also outline the basic steps required to acquire the skills necessary to successfully graft an apple tree. It is a tricky art that doesn't always produce 100% success. It takes a sure and steady hand, patience, and understanding the science behind how we as humans are able to successfully graft one piece of wood to another in order to cultivate and preserve any given variety for future generations. You will also be treated to farm-fresh apple fritters and piping hot coffee for a snack break and free discussion. You are only required to provide your own grafting knife. Do your research and make sure you are purchasing a good quality knife. North 40 Outfitters does sell one brand and there are several online. We look forward to finally hosting our first ever grafting workshop! *Payment required at time of booking to reserve your seat.
